Geesbrug - Over de heide
Een uitgestrekt natuurgebied om uren te struinen.
Er zijn vele manieren om dit gebied te betreden. Deze route begint vanaf de Witte Menweg ter hoogte van nummer 10. Naast deze boerderij loopt een zandpad naar achteren toe, waar je de wandeling kan beginnen. Let op dat dit pad niet perse bedoeld is voor personenauto's. Ga er dus niet overheen tijdens een natte periode, tenzij je een fatsoenlijke 4x4 auto hebt. Je kan het altijd proberen, maar een gewaarschuwd mens telt voor 2. Indien je twijfelt raad ik je aan om de auto vooraan het pad te parkeren. Natuurlijk wel netjes aan de kant, want de boeren gebruiken dit pad om bij hun weilanden te komen.
Je kan een lang pad volgen langs de rand van het bos. Deze brengt je langs het terrein van het zuiderveld en uiteindelijk naar de parkeerplaats van de boswachterij Gees t.h.v. de Goringdijk. Je kan er ook voor kiezen om linksaf de heide op te gaan. Vanaf hier kan je over de heide en door de bossen doorwandelen tot aan Aalden. Door de vele paden kan je ook geheel je eigen route volgen.
Houd rekening met schapen en geiten welke dit gebied begrazen. Het is hier verboden om je hond los te laten lopen. Zelf laat ik mijn hond soms los aan het pad grenzend aan de bosrand. Indien je de heide betreed moet de hond ten alle tijde zijn aangelijnd. Let hier ook op ruiters. Voor hun is dit ook een populair gebied.
Naast de schapen en geiten vind je hier ook vele reptielen en amfibien. Als je goed kijkt en erg stil bent kan je ringslangen, adders, salamanders en hagedissen tegenkomen.
Kortom, een mooi natuurgebied met vele routes om te volgen. Perfect voor een korte wandeling maar ook prima voor de serieuzere wandelaars.
